5 ways to get away with wearing flip-flops

Flip-flopsFlip-flops have been considered a fashion faux-pas for as long as I can remember. Wearing them out in public always garners at least a few judgmental glances or comments from friends like “you’re actually wearing flip-flops?”

While the footwear doesn’t necessarily make the best impression, I think we can all agree that it’s worth trying to make them work for the sake of comfort in warm weather. No matter how chic or impeccable your style, it’s pretty much a universal fact that a pair of flip-flops is one of the easiest and most comfortable options for summer.

For those days when all you can muster is a pair of slip-on shoes, check out my list of 5 ways to get away with wearing flip-flops this summer (because no one likes to have their fashion choices questioned!):

1. Keep them clean

One huge downside of flip-flops is that they tend to become dirty, ratty and beat up like there’s no tomorrow. To remedy this, you could either make sure you’re super careful with them or simply buy a new pair as soon as they get dirty! (This is another plus of flip-flops — they’re insanely cheap!).

2. Pair them with a stylish dress

One way to make up for the fact that you’re wearing flip-flops is by making sure the rest of your outfit is on point. A flowy, bohemian mini dress or even a maxi skirt should do the trick!

3. Amp up your accessory game

Similarly, you’ll want to put some thought into your accessories if you’re donning flip-flops for the day. Choose some layered necklaces or rings to complete your look and it’ll create the illusion that you planned your outfit to a tee (lazy girl’s guide to getting dressed, anyone?).

4. Get a pedicure

If you’re wearing flip-flops, you’ll want to make sure your toes are in tip-top shape! Because flip-flops can sometimes be on the scuffed-up side, it’ll be worth your while to clean up the look of your feet when you’re wearing them.

5. Make sure you pick a stellar pair

If you’re going to wear flip-flops, do it right! There are so many gorgeous and fun pairs of Havaianas and Teeks sandals you can snag for super cheap. I just bought the flip-flops above for $16! I love their colourful, psychedelic pattern.

How do you like to get away with wearing flip-flops? Let me know in the comments!
