It’s not always possible to control our destinies. Often, things get confusing, hard and stressful in life, but in my opinion, we can learn to minimize these negative aspects of our realities through strategies like breathing, meditation, and journaling.
Everything in this world is made up of energy, and everything you get in life is simply a reflection of the energetic plane you’re vibrating on. When you think dark, negative thoughts, you’re lowering yourself to a yucky energetic plane by putting that kind of frequency out into the universe. When we think positive, light thoughts, however, we raise our vibrations and attract these kinds of circumstances into our lives.
So while other people’s free will choices, the weather, and public transport delays may be out of our control, we certainly can choose to set a positive intention for the day to get into the right frame of mind and influence our realities. All too often, I find myself waking up, reaching for my phone, and letting the negative thoughts filter in: I’m tired, I lost a few Instagram followers, I don’t have time for anything. I’m still learning that thoughts like these set a negative intention for the day, which in turn, will make them come true in reality.
On the flip side, what if I woke up and allowed the first thought in my mind to be “I’m so grateful to be alive and healthy and breathing”? Chances are, I would feel lighter, happier, and better equipped to handle whatever came my way that day. I would be telling the universe that I’m thankful for everything it’s given me, and that I’m ready to receive more. This all sounds fine and dandy, but here’s the real kicker: you have to feel grateful, not just think it, or the magic won’t work!
I know, I know, this is easier said than done. If you’re struggling to think of anything you truly feel grateful for in life, don’t feel guilty. Simply stop, breathe, close your eyes, and allow yourself to feel some form of positive emotion, even if it’s just for a few moments. This is a great way to reset your mind and remember that everything will always be okay in the end, even if it feels like your world is crashing down before you.
When you’ve taken a few deep breaths and you feel calm, set your intention for the day, the week, the month, the year, or even your lifetime! There are no limits: tell the universe what you intend to do, feel, be, and truly believe it. This is where the magic happens.
Often, I find myself feeling anxious when I set intentions because I feel like I’m asking for things that are way out of my reach or impossible. But the key is to truly believe in your gut that it can and will happen for you, and it will, it’s only a matter of time! Release all feelings of fear, worry, or anxiety about how it will happen, and just believe.
If you’re unsure of what your intention should be, make it something general like “I intend to feel confident today” or “I intend to feel peaceful during this yoga practice.” Keep your intention in mind throughout the day, and by the end of it, you might just say “hey, I did feel pretty peaceful today.” Fancy that!
