Four Ways to Live Your Truth

While I may seem like a normal 22-year-old on the outside, I’ve always been slightly unconventional. Ever since I was little, I’ve felt a strong pull towards the world of the fae, and I’ve always had a desire to know the answers to the big questions of life like “why are we all here?”

While my interests might be slightly out of the norm, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Over the years, I’ve begun to embrace my eccentricity and even share it with the world, and it’s been so freeing!

I think living authentically is an ideal we should all try to live up to, and while it’s not always the easiest path, I’m finding that it’s definitely the most rewarding. When you live your truth, life flows much more easily, and good things come to you.

With so many external pressures, it can feel almost impossible to do what you truly desire and live by your intuition. Sometimes I feel like as soon as I feel confident in my own resolve, someone will come along and try to tear it down with an offside comment or even a well-intentioned question. Ultimately, it’s up to us to stick to our authentic selves and tune out the rest of the world, but it can be tough–especially when the path you’ve chosen is a slightly unconventional one.

So how do we stay true to our desires, creative pursuits, interests, and life decisions when it seems like everyone around us is telling us to do the opposite? Here are three ideas for bringing some authenticity into your life:

1. Take some quiet time. Our intuition speaks to us when we take the time to sit in stillness, but oftentimes we drown it out with constant chatter. If you feel conflicted about something and the voice of your intuition is beginning to blend with the voices around you, take a moment to meditate and observe your breath to distinguish between them. This will help you realize how you truly feel about the situation and deepen your resolve to live your truth.

2. Choose love over fear. If the majority of the decisions you make are out of fear, you probably aren’t living your truth. When you live your life out of love instead of fear or other negative emotions, things will begin to flow much more naturally. You’ll be able to tell if you’re choosing love over fear by the way you feel: if you feel stressed and anxious about a certain decision, chances are, you’re choosing fear. But if you feel positive emotions surrounding a situation, you’re probably making the right decision (so long as you’re not hurting anyone else in the process!).

3. Follow your interests. Your higher self always knows what to do, and anything that sparks your interest or your desire to learn more will never lead you astray. This one is especially true for career matters. Whether it’s a course, a book, a documentary, or a job posting, the things you feel pulled towards are all totally relevant to your purpose. Follow the things that mesmerize, fascinate, and inspire you, and you’ll be living your truth.

4. Give yourself permission to hand pick your thoughts and beliefs. Don’t like someone’s opinion? Simply thank them for their input and move on. It’s that simple! Sometimes I’ll read a book, an article, or have a conversation with someone, only to find that I feel sad or worried afterwards because I’ve adopted that person’s negative beliefs or attitude. Instead of believing everything you read and hear as if it’s gospel, why not choose to hold the most positive beliefs possible and stick to them firmly, no matter what anyone else says? There’s no reason to fall victim to someone else’s bad attitude. Go down into the depths of your soul to forge your own beliefs, your own thought system, and your own values, and you’ll always be guided in the right direction.
